Welcome to Halsecombe Cottage

Halsecombe is a much loved house that has been in the family for over 50 years. Built in the late 1920s, the cottage is extremely comfortable and cosy with much period furniture, many of which are old family pieces. We have continuously improved the facilities whilst ensuring that we preserve Halsecombe’s very special and peaceful atmosphere.

A major feature of Halsecombe is the stunning view. Relax in the living room whilst watching the ever changing light on the Bristol Channel or look across to the old orchard which is covered in primroses and daffodils in the Spring and where red deer may occasionally be seen grazing. The garden is teeming with birds and our visitors often comment on their enjoyment of watching the many birds on the bird tables, buzzards float over the garden and an occasional owl will hoot you to sleep at night. The cottage is ideal for walkers as the 3/4 acre natural garden gives direct access into woodlands and thereby onto the moor. In the Spring the natural garden is a mass of primroses and naturalised daffodils. There is hardly any need to use your car. Everything you need may be purchased in the charming village of Porlock, the delights of Exmoor are literally on the doorstep and the Coastal Path is a mile or so woodland walk away at Porlock Weir.

Because of its situation on the side of Porlock Hill, the garden is steep. We, therefore, feel that the property is not really suitable for very young children, the very elderly or infirm.

Be warned! Many of our visitors fall in love with the place and return again and again.
